Erin Hunt
Erin Hunt is an artist currently living and working on Fogo Island in Newfoundland. She completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Ottawa and a Masters degree in Architecture at Dalhousie University. Hunt worked in the field of architecture in London and New York before moving to Newfoundland in 2012, where she now maintains a painting studio. She was the recipient of a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts in 2021 for her project Goldthread, a body of work which was exhibited at JK Contemporary on Fogo Island in 2022. Her paintings are currently held in a number of collections, including the City of Ottawa, and have been exhibited in Canada and the United States.
Erin Hunt's paintings are made through an improvisational process that playfully engages the relationship between inner and outer landscapes as a means of finding the form and subject of the work. Hunt is interested in the threshold place between a painting's object quality and its spatial possibility, which she sees as suggestive of the mysterious storehouse nature of the body and mind.
